The Good News:
Staying on Molono Island island is like visiting Eden, but without any snakes or venomous spiders.
As the locals say, "Everything in Vanuatu is friendly, just like the people."
The Other News:
You're still on Earth, no matter what we do. While we don't have any on Molono Island, Vanuatu is home to two kinds of harmless snakes, some scorpions and a biting millipede. As our guests, you are part of our biosecurity team: please make sure you do not accidentally bring any pests back with you if you visit nearby mountains or volcanos. These pests are rare on the mainland, and with a little self-awareness we can keep them off of our beautiful island home. We've never once seen these unpleasant creatures on Molono, and we're determined to keep it that way.
We live on Molono when we can, and as such it is important to us not to have mosquito infestations. While we take every precaution to avoid giving them breeding habitat or comfort of any kind, you may still find a few on your visit, especially early morning and sunset. We keep Avon wipes available to guests- they're our favorite non-toxic precaution against mosquitoes- they really work well. Surprising news, the little suckers do seem to go to bed when it gets dark, so nights outside on the deck are pleasant and generally free of any pests. We love to sit on the front deck at night and play guitar or ukulele, and we've found that there are virtually no mosquitoes after dark, even without any sprays or wipes.
The Good News:
Deeper Love Resort is an organic haven, and our gardens of blooming papaya, pineapple, and tropical flowers are grown without pesticides. Beautiful pollinators such as butterflies and even palm lorikeets and fruit bats are drawn here by the abundant fruits and flowers, and we encourage you to pick your own fruits for meals or snacks.
The Other News
With all these flowers, we get occasional bees and wasps visiting. Don't worry, they're an important part of our garden staff. They're not aggressive, and our human gardening staff never allow them to make nests on Molono. We're sure they'd love you if they got to know you, but they're really just dropping by for the flowers and then they'll go back home.
Also part of this eco-paradise are hermit crabs, lizards, geckos, ants and harmless spiders. We like to live with the doors and windows open during the day, which often allows crabs or lizards to visit. We sweep them outside before bed, but it's your honeymoon- why not have the staff visit for a sweep and a turndown service before closing up for the night? They can even bring you an evening drink to wind down at the end of a perfect day.
The Good News
Luxury starts with clean, healthy, delicious and abundant ultra-filtered water (even your hot shower is premium drinking water) and lots of silent green solar energy. Generally, we don't have to think about being off grid at all.
The Other News
While Molono Island has one of the most desirable climates in the world, sometimes- rarely- it can be cloudy for several days in a row. If that should happen when the AC has been running a lot and we've been charging up the boat battery a lot, you may hear our backup generator kick on. It's our little way to make sure we always have electricity on Molono, and it's almost never used.
The Good News
Molono Island is situated in a warm, sunny part of the world. This makes it a perfect place to enjoy outdoor activities on almost any day of the year.
The Other News
Vanuatu does get some cyclones, earthquakes, and tropical storms. A normal day for us has about a half hour of rain- just enough to keep things green. Other days, the rain can be heavy and persistent. On those rare days we recommend staying on Molono. Watching a storm from the safety of our sturdy bungalow is sexy and spectacular!
Even in the worst of storms, our bungalow is safe and sturdy. In the past ten years it has easily withstood everything Nature has thrown at it- cyclones and all. So open a bottle of wine, snuggle in, and enjoy the storm honeymoon style. And remember: the day after a storm is generally the most beautiful day you ever get.
In the sun, be careful with fair skin, of course. Tropical sun can be very powerful, so plan your days accordingly. We provide reef-safe sunscreen to protect you and the corals during your stay.
